Book design, a conceptual encyclopedia of form and material obsession - Presented at the San Francisco Art Book Fair, 2022 - Printed by: COLPA PRESS
A sphere is holy, a sphere is round, a sphere is the most pure representation of the soul, of liquid, of gods. As the sphere is conceived in the combined form of hydrogen and oxygen in heavens, above the flatness, above the soil, above the horizon, as the sphere embodies the essence of water and as it transcends the spirit and light, under the immense vertical forces of gravity, it collides with Earth and it collides with its horizontal surface. The surface of our beings, the surface of our time and the surface of our cultures.
The prefect sphere scatters into pieces. Whether organic or inorganic, surfaces manipulate the liquid differently.
When deformed and remorphed as a result of collision with the surface, the sphere lost spiritual values and embodied material ones. Our species has manipulated the sphere to the absolute place of abstraction, where everything falls apart, devoid of ontological meanings. Where everything becomes terrestrial and superficial.
Humans of the old world, during long periods of time, have left broken pieces of their believes, their languages and their myths behind. Elaborate observation and documentation of these artifacts have revealed the essence of their consciousness towards the spiritual and physical worlds they inhabited.
This book is an archeological archive of our material obsession. Broken pieces of this obsession will eventually embody historical values for the next civilizations.
The future archeologist will put all of these pieces together in the search for a complete form and its semiotics. The result will be a return to worshiping the holiness of a circle, a return to absorbing light in pure emptiness, a return to the origins of water and a return to respecting the raw materials of the Earth.
The forms presented in the book have been created by a continuous process of visual manipulation of a perfect sphere.
